Beautiful eyes are as much for the skin around the eyes, as the eyes themselves!!
As the skin around the eyes is thinnest on the body, hence probably it is the first place where you show your age. Some people even in late 20s, start having fine lines around their eyes i.e. crows feet which over a period of time begin to etch themselves into the thin skin on the sides of the eyes. This is all followed by dark circles and puffy bags under the eyes, usually in the 30s. Sleepless nights, professional stress, and the responsibility of child rearing all contribute to faster aeging signs!! Also as you age their is loss of elasticity in the skin. Then as one crosses 30s and 40s, many people notice a hooding of the upper eyelids. In the 40s and beyond, extra skin folds accumulate on your eyelids and also underneath your eyes, making you appear more tired. Then, A heavy groove begins to form between the bottom of your eye and your cheek. This is called a “Tear Trough”. Makeup application becomes difficult. Your look worn out and sad eyed, even when you feel energetic and happy.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to male your eyes look more youthful, beautiful, and rejuvenated.
Dr. Rajat Gupta, board certified plastic surgeon at Skinnovation Clinics is a specialist in performing eye rejuvenation and periorbital surgery.
Dr. Gupta’s aim is to restore your youthfulness of the eyes without changing the overall face. With ageing, eyelids start to sag. Individuals also experience bagginess around the eyes of loose tissues, hollowness around the eyes and dark circles. Every individual has a combination of any of these problems. Hence Dr. Rajat Gupta tailors his procedure according to the need of the patient.
For upper eyelids rejuvenation, theincision is hidden in the crease above the eye, making the scar almost imperceptible and camouflaged in the normal eye fold. And for the lower eyelid rejuvenation, the incision is placed inside the eyelid and hence hides really well with no visibility of the scar. If the patient has loose skin under their eyes, an incision is done in the natural crease just near eyelashes. This scar also hides really well and after healing is minimally invisible even without makeup.
Dr Rajat Gupta performs correction of deep tear trughs with fillers or fat transposition for individuals with hollow underneath their eyes.
A blepharoplasty can fix any or all of the following problems:
Candidacy of an individual being ready for this surgery needs an examination with Dr Rajat Gupta, which includes your face examination and review of your medical history and specific concerns. Also patients with no major ophthalmologic complaints are good candidates.
It is recommended to wait for at least 6 months before you decided to go for blepharoplasty procedure if you have had any major ophthalmologic procedure. This surgery doesn’t cure the dry itchy eyes and the patients will continue to have dry eyes after surgery.
You may require a lateral canthopexy or canthoplasty, if you have a face with a negative vector, i.e. slanted on profile orsagging eyelid skin, or lax tissue. The surgeon may also suggestfat grafting and fat repositioning.
A blepharoplasty (upper or lower, or both) is a short outpatient procedure which do not usually require admission. Dr. Gupta usually performs blepharoplasties under local anesthesia and sedation administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, and he uses protective corneal shields to keep your eyes safe. The procedure is relatively painless.
All scars are hidden really well either inside the pink part of the eyelid or along the skin crease. An ice pack is placed on the eyes for several minutes when the patient wakes up after the surgery. It will be helpful to continue the same for next few hours after you leave the hospital.
Upper eyelid surgery: Dr Rajat Gupta will mark the natural lines and creases of your lids and keep your scars as hidden as possible along these natural folds. Fine sutures will be used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing scar visibility.
Lower eyelid surgery: In traditional blepharoplasty when there is need of some excess skin removal, Dr Rajat Gupta will make the incision in an inconspicuous site along the lash line and smile creases of the lower lid. In a transconjunctival approach when no need of skin to be removed, he corrects eyelid puffiness caused by excess fat by making an incision inside the lower eyelid. This technique requires no external incision, and hence no scar at all!!
After surgery, one will be able to go home the same day, once you are feeling well. Eye glasses can be immediately worn, however contact lenses should not be used for few days till the swelling subsides.
Once can resume their normal activities like walking, reading and day-to-day tasks and even resume work 1-2 days post operation. However, swelling and bruising typically do not go away for at least one to two weeks. Many patients like to wear sunglasses for the first few days after surgery, to camouflage this. Once your swelling and bruising subsides, one can appreciate the results of the surgery with a more refreshed and youthful appearance around your eyes.
