AGING AROUND THE EYES

Beautiful eyes are as much for the skin around the eyes, as the eyes themselves!!

As the skin around the eyes is thinnest on the body, hence probably it is the first place where you show your age. Some people even in late 20s, start having fine lines around their eyes i.e. crows feet which over a period of time begin to etch themselves into the thin skin on the sides of the eyes. This is all followed by dark circles and puffy bags under the eyes, usually in the 30s. Sleepless nights, professional stress, and the responsibility of child rearing all contribute to faster aeging signs!! Also as you age their is loss of elasticity in the skin. Then as one crosses 30s and 40s, many people notice a hooding of the upper eyelids. In the 40s and beyond, extra skin folds accumulate on your eyelids and also underneath your eyes, making you appear more tired. Then, A heavy groove begins to form between the bottom of your eye and your cheek. This is called a “Tear Trough”. Makeup application becomes difficult. Your look worn out and sad eyed, even when you feel energetic and happy.

The most definitive and satisfying way to make your eyes more youthful, beautiful, and energetic is Blepharoplasty

UPPER & LOWER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY

Dr. Rajat Gupta specializes in all areas of eye rejuvenation and periorbital surgery. In fact, procedures of the "periorbita," or tissues around the eyes, are one of his favorite operations to perform.

Dr. Gupta’s aim is to restore your eyes to a more youthful state, without changing your overall face. He systematically plans each individual according to ones need. Their are multiple issues in the aging eye like sagging eyelids, bulges of "bags" or fatty tissue, hollowness around the eyes, dark circles, and loose skin. Every individual has a combination of any of these problems. Hence Dr. Rajat Gupta tailors his procedure according to the need of the patient.

For upper eyelids rejuvenation, Dr Gupta hides fine incisions in the crease above each eye, so that after surgery, the scar is almost imperceptible and camouflaged in the normal eye fold. And for the lower eyelid rejuvenation, Dr. Gupta places incisions inside the eyelid, so there are absolutely no visible scars. However, if their is loose skin under the eyes, Dr. Gupta uses an incision in the natural crease just near eyeashes so that after healing their is no evidence of surgery even without make up!

TEAR TROUGH

Dr Rajat Gupta performs correction of deep tear trughs with fillers or fat transposition for individuals with hollow underneath their eyes.

What exactly does blepharoplasty fix?

A blepharoplasty can fix any or all of the following problems:

  • Tired looking eyes
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Thin, crepe-y or crepe-paper skin of the eyelids
  • Very dark circles under the eyes
  • Puffy bags under the eyes
  • Deep tear troughs
  • Hooding of the eyelids
  • Asian eyelids that lack the upper lid crease
  • Very prominent crows feet

Are you a good candidate for Blepharoplasty/ Eye lift surgery?

Candidacy of an individual being ready for this surgery needs an examination with Dr Rajat Gupta, which includes your face examination and review of your medical history and specific concerns. In general, healthy individual without major ophthalmologic complaints are good candidates.

If you have had any major ophthalmologic procedure, you must wait 6 months before having a blepharoplasty. If you have dry, itchy eyes, it is likely that you will continue to have dry eyes after surgery.

If you have a face with a negative vector (slanted on profile), loose eyelid skin, or lax tissue, you may require an adjuctive maneuver such as a lateral canthopexy or canthoplasty. Fat grafting and fat repositioning may also be performed.

What is the surgery like?

Blepharoplasty Treatment in DelhiA blepharoplasty (upper or lower, or both) is a short outpatient procedure which do not usually require admission. Dr. Gupta usually performs blepharoplasties under local anesthesia and sedation administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, and he uses protective corneal shields to keep your eyes safe. The procedure is relatively painless.

All scars are either hidden inside the pink part of the eyelids or camouflaged along a skin crease. When you wake up, we will place an ice pack over your eyes for several minutes. It will be helpful to continue the same for next few hours after you leave the hospital.

What will be the incisions or scars be like?

Upper eyelid surgery: Dr Rajat Gupta will mark the natural lines and creases of your lids and keep your scars as hidden as possible along these natural folds. Fine sutures will be used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing scar visibility.

Lower eyelid surgery: In traditional blepharoplasty when there is need of some excess skin removal, Dr Rajat Gupta will make the incision in an inconspicuous site along the lash line and smile creases of the lower lid. In a transconjunctival approach when no need of skin to be removed, he corrects eyelid puffiness caused by excess fat by making an incision inside the lower eyelid. This technique requires no external incision, and hence no scar at all!!

What is the recovery like?

After surgery, one will be able to go home the same day, once you are feeling well. You may wear your eyeglasses immediately, but contacts should not be used for the first several days, while swelling subsides.

You may go about your normal activities, such as shopping, walking, reading, and even working 1-2 days after surgery. However, swelling and bruising typically do not go away for at least one to two weeks. Many patients like to wear sunglasses for the first few days after surgery, to camouflage this. Once your swelling and bruising subsides, you will notice a more refreshed, rested, and youthful appearance around your eyes.
